Keynote: Overcoming Procrastination and Perfectionism: "Strategies for a Healthy Approach to Productivity and Pressure"
Dr. Johnson will discuss how to overcome two key barriers to productivity - procrastination and perfectionism. He will discuss how to become more aware of these behaviors in your daily life and how to appreciate the stress, anxiety, and pressure they fuel. You will learn to catch yourself in the act if you are blowing off something that is eating at you emotionally for something that is easier to do. You will learn to notice when you are getting bogged down in details or paralyzed because you are uncomfortable with uncertainty and imperfections. He will review a number of concrete experiments you can run to learn to face things and to enjoy doing so. Most importantly, you will learn what it means to live a life of approach and to value process over outcome.

About the Speaker:
Dr. Johnson is a clinical psychologist who writes a monthly column called "The Mental Edge" for the Providence Journal and  teaches at Brown University, where he conducts seminars on supportive and cognitive behavioral psychotherapy for the Brown University psychiatry residency, and a "Career Paths Seminar" for psychology residents.
He also leads the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Team at the University of Rhode Island for the clinical psychology doctoral program and is the Director of RICBT, a cognitive behavioral therapy and coaching practice with offices in East Providence and North Kingstown.
