Message from the President
The “Advanced Mediator” membership in the Rhode Island Mediators Association is our proudest accomlisment.
Advanced Mediators are trained, experienced, professional mediators who are dedicated to the principles and mission of the Association (RIM).
The RIM Executive Board has worked for 18 months to create a mechanism for professional mediators in Rhode Island to express their dedication to advancing the field of mediation and to have that dedication acknowledged.
“Advanced Mediators” are authorized to proudly display the “RI Mediator” Trade Mark on their marketing materials and letterhead and will be identified and receive prominent display on the RI Mediators Association web site.
Applying for, and appropriately displaying the “Advanced Mediator” Trade Mark is a symbol of commitment to:
- Promoting mediation as a profession and as a form of dispute resolution
- Advancing the field of mediation towards clearer and higher standards of ethics and accountability
- Encouraging education and training in mediation.
What It Takes To Qualify
Substantial education such as an advanced degree
40 hours of Basic Mediation Training (plus additional training in any area of declared specialization)
3-5 years practice of mediation where mediation is a regular part of applicant's activities and includes at least 30 hours per year engaged in mediation as a responsible mediator or co-mediator
10 hours of continuing education per year

An application and downloadable packet of information is available on our web site at www.RIMediators.org. The cost of “Advanced Mediator” membership is $120.00 a year.
For newer mediators or those considering becoming a mediator, we have created three “pathways” to becoming an “Advanced Mediator”. These are also described in the packet and on our web site. We recommend becoming an associate member to take advantage of the support and encouragement available through the RI Mediators Association – Become a Part of the Conversation!
